You guys have been so much help i thought i would ask you a few more questions.......
1) my dad purchased a 1978 honda 750 ss and it has 4 carbs. 3 of the 4 carbs will not let fuel into the bowls. if you take the bowls off and alow the floats to drop it still wont let fuel out. faulty needle valves???
2) I have a 1979 xs650 and i hate the air filter box. can i remove the air filter box and place 2 seperate air filters on the carbs???? has anyone done this??? I would like to see pics.... thanks guys.
Sorry i had to ask a honda question, my dad asked me to work the same magic on his bike that you guys helped me with on mine. I told him his first problem was that he shoulda bought an XS....LOL THANKS!!!!!

Go with the K&N filters, or a good uni pod filter. It may require some jetting when you are done though. Does sound like clogged needles on the Honda.

Pull the floats out and the float needles - make sure the float valve works freely in it's hole and the hole is not plugged up.
Check for clogged fuel lines/filters too.

you can also use the pancake filters from the triumph if you want the air/ more free space in the frame. clean look.

Don't know what mine sounded like with the stock air box, but the stock mufflers are plenty loud, and can't imagine being able to hear the air intake over the rumble of the exhaust.
