Hi all,
I am helping a friend out with his XS650 Streettracker.
Q:Does anyone have any experiance with the Boyer/Bransden Electonic Ignition that Mikes XS is selling?
He is thinking about buying one.
Any issues with installation? I will probably be installing it for him.

Thanks for any and all help.

Stan

Stock ignitor boxes 50 bucks........Regular circuits that can be fixed if needed.....I've had points and hate them too.....

I thought you didn't like to spend money...points is cheapest and best. The boyer is great but overrated. I hate the cheap threaded rod included. Not as quality as the stock points setup. The brain will leave you stranded one day, the points will get you home, just be sure to tune every couple thousand miles.

Mike's sells the Boyer Micro Power continuous curve system with proprietary 0.6 ohm coil. I like the older Micro Digital 4-stage; mine's been in service since 1994. It's cheaper, and you have your choice of coils; I run a 5-ohm Dyna double-throw. If your stock coils are in good shape (3 ohms or more primary impedance) they can be wired together in series and used, according to Boyer's most recent installation instructions. The Micro Digital is still in production and available from 650 Central.

Boyers come with cheesy crimp connectors attached. Cut 'em off and solder on good bullet connectors. Be sure of solid power and ground connections; if the ignitor box isn't getting enough juice it won't advance the spark.

Hi all,
Thanks for the info on the ignition.

y friend Don has a misfiring/skipping right cylinder.
It is not popping or backfiring..but I can feel it when I ride it.
Also the right cylinder exhaust pipe is not getting as hot as the left.
We ohmed out the coil primary..4ohms and have replaced the ignition wires and caps. Have not ridden it since then.
Don also has a battery charging problem..I want to get this corrected before we start chasing our tails as I beleive this might have something to do with the misfiring issue.
Thanks,
Stan

May not be it but the right carb could be richer than the left....My two carbs were different.--Not enough to make it miss but I could feel it and the lean carb ran 25 degrees hotter...Could be your problem was just the opposite from mine....Maybe my post On Fine tuning could help....sure did mine......No two women are the same so why should carbs.........

I would just like to put a word in for the Boyer Bransden.

British Bikes have been brought back to life with this ignition setup for years.

The bike I bought to restore was cakes in crap, rusty and looked like sh*t, but it ran, thanks to the spark from the boyer.

The "brains" seldom go wrong on any of the bikes I've used or owned, I dont think any of them have.

But reading your problem it sounds most like a carb fault or a leaking valve.
