I did the mod shown on the following page. It made a noticeable difference in my low and mid RPM performance with no detectable high RPM loss. It's a cheap and simple mod that worth a try for all you open pipe running XSers.

old tech, ever heard of snuff'er nots? had them back in the sixtys, had a waffle washer and spring with a knob so you could turn them to baffle the pipe or flat to run it wide open, the knobs did get hot, lots of burnt fingers back then

When you say open pipe do you mean just the hearder? Or do you have pipes going back further? Also does it sound any different? Thanks

Staight drag pipes. Open exhaust no mufflers. About 1/2 way down the bike.
