Turned over the bike that I have been restoring and the engine makes a grinding noise, need help! Also the kick starter spring wont stay attached, I think the grinding is coming from that spring rotating around cause it makes the kick starter jump when you try to turn it over, Any one know where I can get another spring, have tried where I live all over and no one can get it.

The problem will be with the kickstart detente. It's probably not the spring but the unretracted gears that hook the kick axle to the tranny input shaft that are grinding. If careful review of a manual doesn't clarify the kickstart assembly procedure, specify what you're doing. There's no way the main spring can come off its perch in the case if it's been correctly installed unless the case itself is damaged or the end of the spring that secures it to the kick axle is broken or the hole in the kick axle itself is wallowed out. It's a bit of a trick to get the kick axle stop lug into its seat in the case while keeping the axle spring and detente spring seated. Clymer gives as good a verbal direction as anyone could; the rest is trial and error.

Correction! I referred to a "detente spring" when I should have written "wishbone clip." To anybody searching an IPB looking for another spring--sorry, my bad.
