Hi im a new member but ive had a 75 xs650 for 2 years now. I was wondering if anybody knew of some one who built custom frames specifically for the xs650. Im looking for a street fighter influenced frame that will use suspension from a newer sportbike. Ive been scouring the internet for some information on this but all i come up with is chopper frames and websites from other countries. any info on this would be deeply appreciated

Welcome , glad to have you aboard! I have not seen anything as you described around either, I think because of alignment issues , its probably easier to put the engine into a full frame than adapt your frame , see pics in this link:

other than that you can contact the good people over at www.tanksbytigman.com and they will build an xs frame and work with you for any way you want it.

You don't need a custom frame to turn the Xs into a street fighter, use your imagination and the possibilities are endless Just about any idem on a sport bike will adapt over to the Xs,with some machining of course but that's to be expected. Heck I turned mine into a mono shock set up in a weekend and installed a complete Suzuki GSXR front end. I'd do some searching before building a custom frame.......Jack

cool, your setup was pretty much what i had in mind for my bike. Im pretty new to motorcycles, as in actually cutting them appart, but i was wondering what year gsxr your forks are off of and who made your head stock. And also what bearings, did you just use the gsxr bearings? i know how to weld and think i could pull this off with the helpsome friends, but i really need a little help with motor cycle terminology so if there is any more info about this sort of modification that you could provide me with i would greatly appreciate it. I am also curious about your swing arm and the modifications it took to fit it. have any finished pics? thanks alot
Jim

Hey Jim........... Like you, I was new to customizing a motorcycle but recieved excellent guidance from a very good friend,so I don't know if I'll be much of any help to ya but I 'll difinitely give my best shot in assisting you.
The swing arm is an aluminum piece off a 88 FZR and it extented the wheel base by 1 inch,as most do cuz the arm lengths are extented to provide sufficient room for the mono shock. All the machining was done by a hand grinder, paint and a file The process was a bit slow but the end result was a dead nuts centralization of the swing between the pivot bosses.
The front section required some steering stem modifications to extend it's length in order to fully seat the stem bearings for proper preload and this was acomplished by cutting the stem in half and custom machine a stepped sleeve to extend the stem 5/16 of an inch, then press fitting the sections together and tig welded them. There's still plenty of work . Here 's a shot of the still unfinished project.........Jack
