hey guys I see a few bikes with what looks like cast sport bike wheels
on them can anyone tell me what fits. on the 650s I can get a hold of
a 190 rear tire for a sport bike but would it fit and what wheels fit.

Stock is 130. I'm not sure if you can fit a 190 without some sort of modification. If you are handy with a welder and with mechanics you should be able to do it. Just make sure if you go this route that you know what you are doing (with a welder), if you aren't sure make up a sketch and send out to a professional welder. You might also check out a few sites in the links. One thing of sure is that you will most likely have to get a new rear fender for the 190. Maybe someone here has done this befor and can tell you for sure.

I'm running a 140 and I can tell you, on a stock 80 Xs anyway, Your not gonna
fit any bigger tire between the chain and disc brake hold down. I moved my
brake hold down to the outside of the front tab for a little insurance room. The
140 really looks good on the swingarm.

Did you notice an handeling difference or is it just for looks. I like the looks of the narrower "old school" tires instead of the 200+ tires that everyone seems to be running these days.

If this question was directed to my response I went with the 140 for it's availabilty in the Whitewall I wanted as well as looks. The handling is as good as it was with the stock 130. I find the bikes, My opinion only, with the 190's, 200's look alot better in a picture than in person, Just me I think a 140 is more than enough tire. Just my 2 cents, beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

I guess I am wondering about wider tires with a hard tail rear
do you guys think a 190 or 200 would go on with stock wheel
with spacers.

By the way your wide white looks really good I want to do that to my
v star 650 the wide whites i mean.

You could space it to work on a hardtail but the motor would no longer be lined up with the centerline of the motor. I know it's a common way of running the wider tires but I would think it would have to handle / Ride different. Thanks on the whitewall's, I've never ran them before but I like them on the XS.

Another option is to keep the engine in its original location and space out the drive sprocket.
You can take 2 existing drive sprockets and grind off one of the toothed chain gears. They can be cut and shut to give whatever offset you like.
It is difficult to keep them true and square but it can be done.
If you extend too far then the load on the sprocket will trash your crankcase bearings (unless you get fancy and use a separate outrigger bearing in the side case - fancy running a 6" Mickey Thompson slick?)

thats really a good idea .I have two bikes and three motors I just pulled
the drive sprocket off the spare motor and maybe I can mock something
up . thanks for the input. I have built a hard tail and mocked it up with a
205/50/ r15 wheel / tire . with a centerline rim. and that may be the way to go . I will keep you guys posted and try to get some pics. soon.

I posted a link to sprocketspecialists.com a few days ago they can make front/rear sprockets to your spec this will allow you to use wheels from makers and varied rim sizes check them out Karl

There is always the option of a jackshaft. This would be much easier on a hardtailed frame (may not be possible on a stock swingarm frame), and would allow you to keep the engine at the bike's centerline, keep the original tranny sprocket location (to make life easier on the bearings), and to put the jackshaft output sprocket in line with the rear wheel sprocket. This would require extra work, an extra chain, and some creativity, but would allow as wide a rear tire as you want.

so basically i could throw a 140 tire on my 79xs and it will fit, how about different wheels? what are the specs of the wheel so i know what will fit when i look at new wheels. mine are getting kind of worn looking i want something new. thanks
