My bike is running really lean & I want to try raising the needles in my 82' carbs by spacing with washers, like I've read about. I'd like to have the washers on hand when I pull the carbs off. Can anyone tell me what size washers to get?

Anything same ID as your needle and same OD as your needle retainer, and as thin as possible (I could take a caliper to one, but so can you, Driver). In my experience, though, changing needle position is the last thing to attempt in dialing in XS650 carbs. The procedure recommended by the K&N folks has worked well for me: get your mains right, then go up 1 step on the pilots for every 3 steps you took on the mains. I'm assuming your bike's exhaust and/or intake are modified. If not, it'd be a good idea to find out why the lean condition's there. Good luck!
