Start with the motor first,if it doesn't perform well your not gonna like it no matter what it looks like and there's nothing worse than to get a bike finished then have the charging system die out on you leaving you with no money to get your nice shiny new project running and while you save up the 200 or 300 to fix it the summer flies by. In a few posts back you said a cafe can be done with less headache and less money,a good cafe tank will set you back anywhere from $400- to $1000+ then another $200-$300 for a seat pan, then some rear sets a couple hundred at least. The brat style is definately the easiest cheapest way to go.It always helps if you got something to ride when your working on a project that way your not rushing. Spend all your free time on this site and the xs650 garage and you will learn a lot about these bikes.

Thanks for the wise words dmpotto, my engine has high commpression and it holds a charge, if it does not run well I will find another, my focus is the frame and style I want.

Hey guys, I went ahead and choped up the frame. I really like the bratstyle but want to do my own version of course. Will do it all by eye as I go, gonna do my own bending and tak it with my cheap mig, then have a local welder do the heavy welds. I want my shock tower close to the one in the 001 pic above, weather or not I extend the swing is up in the air right now, ill relocate the top mount first then stand back for a few days and then decide.
