So i picked up a 76 lastnight and it has a constant tick in the motor, Its kinda loud but doesnt sound like a knock from the lowerend, It has 29k miles and was sitting for thr last 8-10years, the guy i got it from said he had to put oil in it and used 5-30 (im hoping its the oil b/c its really tin / broke down) Where do you guys think i should start looking Are oil pumps issues common?
Thanks Eric

I'd try just setting the cam chain & valves (in that order), might help!
Strange oil for Aus, but maybe ok for your frozen part of the world, not sure!
The front cam chain guide can seperate from the metal & flap around making a tick......
Of course you could also make sure there is no exhaust leak.
Both oil filters usually need a clean (any plastic bits say chain guides)
Bottom filter could be damaged (quite common), then you can put in some heavier grade oil......Where in the world are you?
Of course, could be none of these things, they are just some of the more common problems with these bikes, keep us posted. Cheers

Ya id say hes right ,on my bike i dont think the po did any cam chain adjusting nevermind checking the valves, at about 9k, the chain was loose for sure I forget if the valves were out but I have reset them since. I wouln't worry about a tick on a newly baught xs uintill its been adjusted back to required settings.
