So Thursday is Thanksgiving in the States, and I just want to wish everyone a great day! Of course, this includes everyone around the biking world, regardless of race, creed, color, national origin or brand of ride.....I guess. Not absolutely certain of that last part, but I'll fly with it.....
My day will be filled with family, ham, turkey, stuffing (I make damned good stuffing!!), and maybe some harmless alcohol and shooting of firearms at non-living targets. Maybe even a short hop on the XS!
Right now I'm finishing up a nice big bottle of Guinness, and so even if you don't ride a 1977 XS650D, the apogee of XS development and class, I still wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving and start of the holiday season!
Happy Thanksgiving, Guys!

So what exactly is this giving of thanks all about anyway?

...harvest festival-next to fertility one of the oldest pagan rites- interestingly in canada -further north for the geographically challenged and therefore having a shorter growing season- is on the 2nd monday of october
...seems according to Barbara only to apply to males

Wow Barb. Sounds like our house, though the targets just might have 4 legs and antlers (wife would kill me if I threw butchering into the mix of her kitchen on Thanksgiving, HA!).
Youngest daughter is at grad school and has invited some of her foreign student friends to our house to experience an American tradition. We usually invite white people but it looks like we have a couple of young girls from mainland China attending.

Well here is the wiki definition my XS brother.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thanksgiving
Here in KC it goes like this. We will assemble at my brother's house (his turn)with all the relatives. Some alcohol will be consumed . Eat turkey and all the trimmings until ready to explode. Watch some football and tell stories. Draw names out of a hat for Christmas gift exchange. Make fun of relatives not present. Stay a few hours. Drive home. Put on "fat pants". Maybe take a nap.

"Guys" is generic......and of course, like all holidays, it has it's origins in the older ways and traditions. I kind of like that, although I don't think turkeys do...
Hey, I like the poster: Geronimo, his cousin Fun, son Chappo and brother-in-law Yanzha, armed with a couple of Model 73 Winchesters, a .45-70 Trapdoor carbine, and a .45-70 rifle. Just think: if they had won, where would all the gamblers go if there were no casinos.....?
despecial, I love that avatar!

Actually this year my nephew is supposed to bring home some of his American Indian college school mates. I am part Cherokee. Nephew is very into our ancestry and goes to an Indian college. I think it will be interesting.

Here is yet another take on this uniquely American traditional holiday....
I too have some indigenous origins Pumps and have Westies too.
This view of Thanksgiving origins is therefore biased a bit.....
videocafe.crooksandlia...anksgiving
My dear friend Klaus aus Deutschland calls it....Americans Best Holiday!
Happy Thanksgiving ........alles! Blue

Cool, thanks for the education......Probably known about the existance of thanksgiving since the Brady bunch were still getting to know each other, just never occured to me to question what it was about!
I met an Indian couple out here a few years ago......His name was Running Cloud or something similar, he then introduced his wife as 3 Horses.......I had to ask why 3 Horses, he said it translates to nag nag nag!
Whatever your stance on the day is, I hope it's a safe & happy day for all.
As they say in Aus, "If you drink & drive, your a bloody idiot"!
