I noticed today, or more accurately smelled, a little puddle of fuel under the bike. Upon inspection the clamp screw on the left carb (as you are sitting on it) where it goes into the air box had gas on it. I have been told that I need a new petcock assembly by a garage, but was waiting for the weather to get worse. Does anyone think it may be leaking from the petcock assembly, or is there another area/part towards the back centerline of the motor just in front of the air boxes where fuel may be leaking.

The o-ring on the float needle seat will eventually leak.........here is what I did years ago for a permanent fix......carpet thread and camphor the hole ....hide the end of the thread...some oil and shove it in....

80 model...........good time to clean carbs and put some 135 main jets and at leas a 45 pilots in there too...........then all you have to suffer with is the needles.....and timing too....... Smile

Nice Fix John I had the exact same problem, Gave me fits figuring out where the small leak was coming from when the bike was sitting.

My fix was I took out the o-ring and folded up some Teflon tape for pipe threads and wrapped it in the Channel where the o-ring fits (doesn't take much) then put back the o-ring it tightens things up so gas can't leak past the o-ring.

You are also the genius that made their own mix screw o-rings too......and another genius used the wood dowell I sent the needles with to knock out the needle jets..........and a further genius told me to put the pilot in a drill to push the wire through easily............dang it never ends.....

Pre 80 rotor for TCI........Small rare earth magnet like 3/16 width and 1/4 or less length......epoxied in...........

Thanks xsjohn. I have never rebuilt carbs. I am kicking it around as alot of the seals and gaskets look to be wearing out and since I need to do the petcock as well, this might be a great winter project. Is a carb rebuild something a newbie can do? My biggest fear on the backside is getting it restarted. Also, I am not prepared to do the vacuum testing. Likely a local shop can do all of that.
