Just signed up today, but owned my 79-SF for about 6 years & a77-D barn queen for 2.
My 79-SF has been mod'ed a bit, but frame & engine are still stock, as most of the rest of the bike so far.
Things done to it:
* GM HEI ignition module with adapter circuit running on the points
* Knock-off Harley DynaCoil (dual lead, one coil)
* Electronic turn signal flasher
* Aftermarket Jeep electronic voltage regulator
* Modern 5 lead 3-phase bridge rectifier
* Self-made LED lamps in Speedo & Tach
* Euro handlebars
* Self-made rear-set plates with R6 pegs, rear brake pedal & shifter
* Stainless braided front brake line
* XS1100 slotted front disc
* 12mm front master cylinder
* R6 Brembo rear master cylinder
* K&N air filters in stock air-boxes
* MAC 2-2 headers with taper-tip mufflers
I've been through all the mechanical stuff, still need to update the suspension with progressive fork springs & emulators, longer rear shocks, brass swing-arm bushings as well as a few other upgrades I'd like to do.
My original head light just started lighting up the head lamp warning light when on High Beam, so it's now time to update that to a retro-H4 lense & lamp.
I've also got 2 Cobra F1 aluminum mufflers that I've thought of adapting to it for a mellower sound. Not liking the short taper-tips, too loud & Harley'esque sounding.
Anyway, looking forward to conversing with you guys & gals!
Later,

Oh, forgot to mention, had to install the 77-D engine into the 79-SF couple months ago due to some unresolved-as-of-yet issues with the 79-SF engine.
The 77 engine is pretty nasty looking, but runs pretty good, especially considering it sat for about 10 years with out being started. It was not locked up or has not had any issues & still good compression.
Also just pick up an 80 engine today from a fellow XS'er, but it's locked up. Some work to do on it after getting the 79 engine torn down & repaired.
later,
