I just did the seals in mine though no buggered screws here. I did used my new screw drivers, I just bought some new ones. One of the best things I've done in a while, the old ones where thrash. I didn't realize how bad till i got new ones. I did work the ends of the new ones a bit with my file to get them to fit good in the Philips screws heads.
the other ends of the screws are punched so they can't come out.
I used my new screw driver carefully fitted and pushed down firm and they came right out I would try that before the drill.
Sorry no fun. I wish you well.
I ordered new screws thinking I would need them put I didn't use them.

I have found that if you hold the butteryflys open and file the end of the screws flush with the shaft they come out easier. The screws are flattened a bit to keep them from falling out, With the flattened part filed off they come right out. Just replace them or use lock tight on them when reinstalled.

wally,
The plastic washer is just a spacer washer isn't it? Replaced with anything the same thickness should be ok.
