HELLO
I am going to throw this out there and please don't laugh. I have pretty new mac 2-2 exhaust. I ran into some carb trouble this season and it has blued the head of my new pipes Crying or Very sad I bought them toward the end of last season. I haven't had them that long. Does anybody have any tricks to get the blueing out of the chrome? I have heard all kinds of crazy stuff like start your bike warm it up just a little then cool it down do that again then pour a quart of oil on the pipes this just seems like it would make a mess. Any thoughs??????

There is a product called "blue job" I saw advertised in the recent issue of motorcycle classics. It's supposed to remove bluing. www.blue-job.com/index.html

Also you might want to check at eastwood.com for a product called Blue Away. Here's the link.

the blue job works as good as anything i found. while your at eastwoods get a 4-5 inch buffing wheel, put it on a 4 inch grinder and buff em out. you will still have some blueing, they are single wall pipes. save the oil for the motor Laughing

The stock pipes on these xs650's are double walled and it takes
lean mixture to blue them. After market pipes are usually single
wall and blue much more. I proved this to myself on a XS1100
we just put pipes on and they blued and discolored in 10 miles.

10 miles? I can beat that, John! Got my Mac 2-2's beautifully colored up at idle fooling with a Morgan Colour Tune view-port spark plug (hell, I'll try any gadget once). The pipes would have turned anyhow, and blue's a great color; now if they were turning pink or something I'd see the problem....

quoted from some country song I just don't remember who sings it.

Blue Away / Blue Job works pretty good, used it on some HD stuff, some HD shops even sell it. To avoid blueing on new pipes, use silver high heat spray paint inside the pipe before you put them on. Silver works the best, usually the VHT brand, I have done this on lots of HD's where guys get all bent out of shape about chrome. Use your old pipes for tuning. Try to use a few coats, we don't care about runs, it should cover far enough to save your chrome.

why not jet coat them no more bluing issue? or you could wrap them with header tape and just not see the blue.
