I have tried adjusting the carbs and it still happens. The right side of the bike fires nicely..... ba ba ba ba .... the left side stutters and putts. It is not as noticeable on acceleration but when the bike is idling it is really easy to hear. Would an exhaust leak cause this problem? The bike runs great aside from this. I can deal with it but I don't want to cause more problems.
Thanks

usually it a good idea to mention the year of the bike ......your 80 will have a dual coil one side could be weak but a few other things to check first, unscrew the plug wires from the coil and switch them to the opposite sides, problem move? bad plug wire or plug cap, switch spark plugs or put in new ones

My 82 is the same way. Right side seems to idle a bit better and I have new plugs, and wires. I do find that if you adjust the carbs (not just the left one) you can get them pretty close to firing the same. Mine was terrible when I first got the bike, but now the diffrence is only noticable by me. Johns needles helped a lot.

Adjust the sync screw in the middle of the throttle shaft until both exhausts sound the same. No more than an 1/8 turn either way. Finish by resetting the idle speed.

Thanks for the tips guys. I will let you know if any of those work. I read in the book that you can clean out your exhaust by using an old chain. Does that sound right? Are they talking about the headers?

I gues I don't understand what cleaning out the exhaust has to do with the left cylinder stutter.

LOL, me either. I adjusted the sync screw and the mixture screw and it is firing nicely. Thanks
