Will an 1100 Midnight Special dual disc front mag wheel bolt up to an 83 650 Special front fork? A friend has one. Would 83 650 calipers fit? Can you tell I'm new to 650's? Thanks,Gary

The wheel will fit, must use 1100 rotors and calipers.

The wheel fits for sure. The rotors are the same between XS650's and XS1100 Specials and standards. I only assume the rotor is the same on the Midnight Special. You need calipers from an XS650 or XS1100 standard. XS1100 Specials have leading axles, so their calipers won't fit on the XS650. I believe the SR500 has a left front caliper that is suitable for the XS650.

I am skeptical of the XS750/850 calipers as those bikes have smaller rotors. I guess you can cross check the part numbers. If they check out, post it, but I think you'll find they don't match.

Has anyone got a 650 with the SR500 rotor and caliper? Also, can you bolt up the XS1100 mags, or do you have to change forks? The bike
salvage place here has a stack of XS1100 wheels...

XS1100 front wheels bolt right up to XS650 front ends. Rotors and all are a perfect match for 1977 and later XS650's.

Here is a xs1100 disk and a xs750 caliper on my '79. Note the brake hose holder on the front fender. This is a SR500 piece still to be found at Northwest cycle. So I have a piece of every bike that used this caliper/rotor setup except the XS850. It is a simple bolt on conversion. Just run a tap into the holes in the hub to clear out the 20+ years of crud that might be living in the threads.

Thanks for the photo..
I'm off to Bent Bike next week to see if they still have all those wheels lying about.
