Hello!
I'm new to this site. My name is Brian and I have loved the XS650 since 1980 when I purchased mine new. I have a problem that I hope that one of you may help me with, I wish to install a belt drive on my bike and I can't seem to find one anywhere. There is a man in Australia that has done this to his bike but his email address doesn't work. Does anyone know where I may find such an item? Thanks in advance for your help.

Yeah anything can be done. Probably grafting parts from a belt drive bike would be the best place to start.
But if you travel any gravel or less than "clean" roads, a small rock thrown off the tire and into the belt and pulley will ruin your day. Been there done that.
Have you priced a motorcycle drive belt lately? A new belt was $175, was real close to converting over to chain.
And you can't take a link out of a belt when you decide to change the gear ratio.

Here's the link to the Aussie site.

www.users.bigpond.net....drives.htm

Some very nice stuff, but come on, we're dealing with antique XS650's here. How far do you want to go? And how Much time and money should one spend on these bikes?
I've already spent more than I care to know on mine, I'm still having fun tho!
