This may not be a news flash to everyone else but I discovered that HD aluminum foil crunched up and used to apply chrome polish will remove the baked on shoe goo that melts on the mufflers without hurting the chrome. There are probably better ways but I thought id pass it on any way.

Well it generally wont hurt chrome but if you work it hard enough and without enough polish as lubricant it will leave scratches and/or rather deep swirl marks. I used foil and Blue Magic polish to remove the rust and pitting from my bike when I first got it. Worked great but did leave some scratching when I didn't use enough polish.

Yeah, got to use a lot of polish & try & stay on the goo spot as much as possable. Works better then 0000 steel wool & doesnt scratch like it does. Anything was better then the way it looked, nothing to lose

Here a good way not to scratch your finish ,go for a ride make those pipe real hot grab a can of oven cleaner spray it on the baked rubber or shoe marke be carfull not to spray any on your paint or alluminiun parts (works only on chrome ) let the oven cleaner sit for a minute or two just wipe it off wit a wet towell if you are lucky most of the goo will be gone the more fresh is the stain the better it works on old and hard stain you might
have to soak the goo a longer this trick work for me a few time be carefull whit the cheap quality chrome muffler (emgo or chinese) it might remove some shine so try on a small spot first i have remove a burnt rainsuit whit that oven cleaner trick just be patient wile doing it repeat a few time if you have to, remove some the first time ride the bike and next time you wash your bike do it again enventualy it will go away and you wont scratch the finish so keep those scruff-pads and steel wool away from that chrome.
ride safe;-)

"Autosol" polish easily removes black marks and polishes at the same time.

For really melted shoes & boots. Try aircraft paint stripper & 0000 steel wool or a rag, rinse with water. Let the stripper sit & do the work while on other projects.
