I am a new XS fan and new to the site. Two years ago I came across a derelict '81 XS650. It was missing almost everything necessary to call it a bike. After I got it home, drained the water from the engine, freed up a few rusty parts and rebuilt the carbs, I was able to fire it up to my amazement using a makeshift wiring "system". I recently was able to procure a titled '78 frame and will soon begin assembling a bobber. Since I have virtually nothing to start with, it will only use the most basic items needed to make it legal. The only frame mod I am planning on is a stretched swingarm. Please keep up the great work, this bike is awesome, I never imagined a following so huge for a bike this old.

Welcome Drunk,

I love this "drained the water from the engine, freed up a few rusty parts and rebuilt the carbs, I was able to fire it up". This is why I love this bike - the dam things seem to always run, hell it's like they are inhabited by some spirit that will not die!

I have left 100K bikes on the side of the road during a ride because of some computer issue. No thanks, I'l take the XS650 any day!

Got the new swingarm on today and started the obligatory "frame lightening." Hopefully have it on the road in ratbike form by the late spring.
