Ive determined my rattle is coming from the exhaust port/ header area. There an inner pipe in the stock headers i understand? Has anyone else ever heard one rattle? Also there are to small holes at the top of the header and one near the end before the bottom mounting screw, are they there for an important reason or to just release any extra pressure? Would my best bet be to just buy headers? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You are already running open pipes correct? I was running the open, Cut off mufflers, stocke two walled pipes. I went with the drag pipes from MikesXS and really like them. They're a little longer and sound much better. As a bonus they have a bigger ID and flow better as well. If you get them treat them with the "Cool Blue" to keep the from blueing. Mine still look good after 5,000 miles even after running a little on the lean side for awhile.

I had a XS1100 that the pipes rattled on and I found the cap nuts were bottoming out where the pipe attaches to the head. Additional lock washer and no rattle. Hope this helps. Old Yamaha Mechanic John Underwood
