just bought an xs..& the clutch is slipping.i dropped out the dead looking car oil the previous owners were using but fear the plates may have become glazed. is there a common easy fix solution to these clutches? as im here in the philippines and cant get more plates till august. slackened off the cable at the hand-lever and oiled the cable. next thing was to inspect &/or adjust the worm drive under the l/h side cover. does anyone think that this could have any benefit?also im 3000k's & 2 months off getting a manual (or parts) so how many turns should this be adjusted at (the worm drive thingo?)....is it possible to slip a few washers under the clutch springs to hopefully stop slippage- or does this make it worse??? thsnks guys!

if the clutch is slipping it could be misadjustment or the plates - pull the side cover and the clutch is easy to disassemble you can lightly sand the fiber plates then thourghly clean them before reassembly lay the metal plates on a sheet of glass to check for warp no fix there if they are warped they will need replaced make sure the ball bearing doesn't get lost when you pull the clutch push rod - to set clutch adjustment back off handlebar adjuster to slack cable, then screw in the worm gear until it bottoms then slightly, then loosen it to just touch, then remove cable slack at handlebar - try adjusting it first then if it still slips you will be looking at disassembly jayel

Don't forget to rough up the steel plates too.
