Newbie with interchange questions

First of all I am glad I found this site. Looks like a load of info.
I bought a 82 650 heritage last week with plans of a street tracker / street fighter type build. I have the spoke steel rims w/r-drum and would like the mag style wheels.
What will fit as far as other xs or Yammi models?
Whats the easiest way to go to 18 or 19 in mag wheel?
I see talk of Radian swingarms and RD rims. Are there any other common interchange parts I should know about?
I can do cut and weld, trying to stay low cost though.

To convert to mags without welding you would have to find a relatively rare drum brake mag wheel. I saw two in the last two weeks on ebay go for $150 each. If you don't mind welding on master cylinder mounts to your frame you can try and find an equally rare (due to demand) rear disk brake set up also in the $100 range. I spent two months looking for a rear brake set. Once I realized the cost of parts and pain of welding on mounts, I decided to stick with the spoked drum hub laced to a wider rim.

But to answer your question, the cheapest route would be to find a rear disk brake set-up and weld on the mounts. If you want a 19" rear wheel there are no cheep routes. You have to buy an adapter kit from omar's.

I take that back. It's possible that the SR500 had a 19" rear mag. I can't recall what brakes it had though.

I just looked it up. The SR500 had an 18" rear mag with drum brakes.

I used the rd400 stuff on mine, you`ll need everything. The rd uses a smaller axle, which i couldnt come up with the bearings to fit the 650 axle. someone may make them, but the guy at bearings inc. couldnt produce them. The swingarm takes the same bushing as the 650. You`ll have to fab shock mounts. I used shocks off a xr500 15'' eye to eye, to make it sit right. The rd comes with a 42 tooth sprocket, sprocket specialist has the sprocket you need. That $300 adaptor omar sells seems expensive, but you can use all the 650 stuff. After it was all said and done it would been easier & maybe cheaper to buy the adaptor.

Do any of the XS400, 750, 1100 front wheels fit?

The 400 and 360 use a thinner axle. The 750 and 1100 wheels are good to go.
