Hi Guys,

This is odd---the title should provide some sort of clue as to the content of the thread....no thinkin' required, just read it. You don't wanna? Cool---don't. Want to start a thread titled "Caution--Porn: Parents watch your children"? Go for it. But to slam someone else's thread/belief is not only impolite, it's downright unfriendly.

I'm a "recovering" Catholic--I prefer to carry my "church" in my head, but I don't have a problem with people who (A) go to church, or (B) do not believe in a hereafter at all. We're all just people, for better or worse, but at least we have the option of being civil to one another.

It's like me saying that since I have an XS, a Virago sucks. Lame.

Lighten up guys......and I too feel something strange is truly going on......recently I ran over 2 cats at the same time....one being black the other was white........and yesterday a big black Rottweiler that looked like Satans dog ran right out in front of me while I was heading to the location where a fellow cyclist had just been killed......saw no flowers or crosses at the crash site......haven't been to Church in a while so maybe I will take a cross and some flowers out there and place them beside the road.......but then again not knowing his affiliation I could be beaten to death for the effort..........

Hi Guys,

Skull has an interesting point...I wonder if a blessing really does help? Think about it--a winning racer, for example, is one who has lots of confidence: she (heehee) *knows* she is going to win. (OK, or "he")......anyway, I would ask this: what possible harm could a blessing of a bike do? It doesn't cause rust, at least that I've seen. And if it gives a rider just a tiny bit of extra confidence, then it's a good thing.

Personally, I think we are just one of God's many celestial jokes, and he is amused at our frantic antics, but I respect those who are more personally involved, and let's admit it: out on a highway, a bike rider can use any sort of help that's available!

Oh yeah---and Virago's really *do* suck, I just feel that I should whisper it.... Laughing

Hey---suppose there is a "Befuddled Agnostic Motorcycle Association" out there somewhere? Have to be in the South....look at the initials: 'BAMA!!

Enough....

Lyle, Pr. Al and his friend rode their Harleys down. I didn't get a chance to share my bike with him. They got lost on the way down from Sioux Falls and just barely made it on time. By the time the service was over, which drew over 50 people, it was too late and dark to do much socializing. They were wearing their "colors" and made quite an impression on the folks in church. He has an amazing story.
Peace,
Bsquared.

READERS BE ADVISED...GOD TALK AHEAD
Hey folks, This is good conversation.
I don't mind the different viewpoints...but being civil is essential in any conversation, otherwise, it's human nature to just shut down and not really hear what the other person is saying.
Regarding blessing bikes, as a pastor, I don't believe it gives the bikes or the riders any extra protection. It's not something magic. It's asking God to bless the bikes, or anything, and is simply offering it up to God, consecrating it, setting the thing, or person apart and remembering that God is in control, everything belongs to God, and giving Him thanks. It's like asking Him to bless the food we eat...it's still just a hamburger, we just recognize where it comes from and ask God to strengthen us through it so we can love and serve him and our neighbor, and give thanks.
Peace,
Bsquared

Smile I agree, some folks do use that "God is in control" as a cop out. He did give us free will, and often we can really screw things up. When I say God is in control, it's to help me remember who is the "boss." Smile

Bsquared; Thanks for the update. Great to hear that Pr. Al and his friend made it there and Al shared his story. Do you know of a link where we could hear him speak, youtube maybe ? I looked on his web site www.setfreesodak.com, didn't see a video link.
"we just recognize where it comes from and ask God to strengthen us through it so we can love and serve Him and our neighbor, and give thanks." Agreed, well stated.

It is good to hear that everything went well for Pr. Al and that the Word was preached. It is also good to see that there are others here with the same perspective.

Doesn't matter to me whether your a bible thumper or an atheists, we're all bikers. As long as it fits in with the subject at hand ( XS 650's ) i don't see a problem with it. I could go on about my Harley or Triumph here, but doubt it would be well received either.

Oh c'mon, Tracker,

EVERYBODY loves a nice Triumph!! Very Happy

Seriously, who doesn't love a neat looking Triumph twin? The Harley, now---eehhh. Take it or leave it. Just my personal opinion, which leads me into.....

......"personal opinion". That thing we all do to determine the guideposts of our lives, be they religion, drugs, bikes, memories of fantastic high-school crushes or love of dogs.

Or my favorite: Guinness!!

Seems to me that mild discussion of something intensely personal is OK as long as it is confined to a specific thread. If one of us were to lose a loved one, we could talk about that, and probably get sympathy, as befits a company of friends. When it becomes the reason for being here--to preach, and I don't just mean religion, then it seems to me to be a problem. (Want proof? Check out the "Next President" thread..)

I guess what I'm suggesting is that there can be a balance between what we feel is paramount in our lives (religion, ancestry, money--I don't know) and the purpose of the site: basically to explore the parameters of having a long-term love affair with the apogee of Japanese bikes: the XS650!

Just, as ever, my Five Euro's worth (inflation, don'tcha know....)

Well put Barb. We should all try to keep our focus on Yamaha 650 related topics.................sure there will be some wandering so as to set context but bring it back to topic. Lets all have fun and be respectful of other viewpoints.

Retired on a moped has more class than you will ever have. You show that by your posts. If you want to troll go to R&R on Craigslist.

dpm,

Typo's and other errors aside, you're right. What a waste of time, reading your three little posts.

Good advice given above---Craigslist would do just fine; anywhere but here.

(Hey Guys, any bets on if he replies or not? I bet he can't stand it, but I'll happily lose...)

If you read the origional post it was from someone who's into motorcyles and riding trying to find out if any one with the same interests might also be interested in, or know about having a motorcycle blessed... Not a whole lot of preaching that I saw.
And if anyone's interested I used to consider myself athiest until I listened to some of "their" views on what religious folks are doing... Now I consider myself agnostic.
And I'm sorry if I misspelled anything

Hey folks, Here's some more God talk....and I'll admit, maybe even just a little preaching...
Thanks again for the great discussion! This forum, as usual, helped with finding a solution to a problem. As a result, the Christian Motorcycle Association from Sioux City will be coming to Trinity Lutheran Church in Hartington on Aug. 10 in the evening for a blessing of the bikes at 7, and leading worship and music at 8.
Out of the 41 posts, really only 3 or 4 were negative, but that's what happens when people bring God into their daily lives, hobbies, motorcycle open forums, bowling, etc. Some people get rubbed the wrong way. But that is a good thing. What's the point if we all agree? Jesus mentions in Matthew 5:13-16, how Christians are to be salt and light in the world. Salt has no effect unless it's applied to something. Light only illuminates where there is darkness. Salt doesn't do any good in the jar with the light turned off. Bikers can be salt and light too. Hey, God is good.
Peace,
Bsquared
