I am in the process of buttoning up the top end of my engine after a through check -up and cleaning . My question concerns how to center the camhaft /gear /chain so that it runs true and straight with the chain guide I replaced the front chain guide due to uneven wear, the chain had worn the outer edge on the righthand side of the guide, Where do I measure from / to for correct center measurement? thanks Tony

Sorry--missed this when you first posted.
Both Clymer and Haynes give the procedure, but here it is again. Slide the bearings onto the camshaft all the way to the stops. Sight on the edges of the bearing bosses in the head and make sure the inner edges of the inner bearings overlap them equally.
