72 xs650 - stock
Has a problem with idle on left side, soaked carbs for 2 days, assembled and bike ran better. Figured i'd try the same for the right side since it helped so much on left. now the bike idles and throttles great when upright, tilt bike or rock it side to side cut's out and dies. plug's burnin black, real black. What the hell would cause this problem ?? had these carbs apart a dozen times and never had this problem. got me puzzled !!
The needle jet oring was shot so I got another on there but not the right one, if fuel passes by would that do it ? Fuel from petcoks is strong, filters not clogged.

Thanks for any help,
Dave from Massachusetts

Re. the needle jet--affirmative! It must be seated correctly, and the floatbowl gasket needs to be doing its job. But the fact that the bike's reacting to tilt makes me think you may also have an issue with the float needle and seat. The needle could be hanging up when you're off vertical, and you may need to check float level.

You're luckier than I was! I troubleshot my carbs and filters to no avail, then I ran into an old Yammie Mech who told me to switch out my brushes on my stator! Everytime I went into a turn or leaned over, it would cut in and out. Believe it or not, the new 20.00 brushes fixed it. I still don't get how!!!
