new to the board and have a few questions. what models are best to work with? i am looking at a 1979 xs650 special and was wondering if this would be a good donor. what swingarms bolt on? what parts work, do's and don'ts and a some good sources for parts. if all goes well, I will pick this bike up this weekend.

That 79 Special will work just fine for a tracker project. Lots of folks prefer the looks of the cast wheels on their trackers. Swingarm "upgrades" include the TX750 and the Radian.
