CAn i run a 83 16in rear wheel on a 75 ?

what is the limit on the width i can go with the tire, 140?

As far as I know, all the rear wheels will interchange. It's just that you will have issues going with a different rear brake system. But the 83 rear is a drum brake, as is the 75, so you should be good.

Dunno the limit. You can probably tell with a tape measure or a ruler. Convert from inches to mm, of course (1" = 25.4mm).

I own a 1983 Special. If your swingarm is the same as mine, a 140 wide tire might fit. It will depend upon the brand of tire because they vary slightly. Once again, if the swingarms are the same, a 130 wide tire will fit. I have a Dunlop GT501 on mine and it is a tight fit at 130 wide. I don't think 140 will fit in that brand.
