Hi, I wasn't entirely sure where to ask this question, but the description here seemed to make the most sense. I just bought a 1975 650 and I want to lower it. Is it possible to just put on shorter springs/shocks in the rear? Will that cause clearance problems with the rear fender? Will it change the rake of the bike? If it is a problem, is there an after-market lowering kit I can buy? I'm new to motorcycles as a whole, so I'm sorry if this is a newb question. Thanks for the help.

Not sure on a 75 model but I installed aftermarket Harley shocks at 11 1/2" without a clearance issue. I did have to alter my kickstand so I could use it. I'm sure if you look around on the net you find a better suited shock for an XS I just took the easy route as Fog Hollow is right down the road from me.

I've come across plenty of shorter shocks on ebay, usually described as "for 75-80 model year" or something to that extent. Thanks for the info!

i have xs360 shocks on my 78 se. they work good and don't let the tire meet the fender but do change the rake a little. i had to swap the rubber bushings with my original sshocks to fit them.

I'm new to the world also but have found that mike'sxs and 650 central are awesome for information and have the shorter shocks available.
There is probably a link that you can use to find those sites.
