Hi guys working on a dissassembly, just getting to the engine part, wondering if you all had an oppenion on what best to use to clean out all the gunk in the below picture

From the picture I might try some GUNK engine cleaner? A good stiff brush?

dig out the big stuff with a putty knife, screwdriver, stiff brush with kerosene then after it starts coming clean a shot of spray brake cleaner works well

How close are you to the car wash? Spray it down good with any good degreaser. Take it too the car wash for a good high pressure rinse.

Spend a little time with a pressure washer and a few cans of engine degreaser & simple green and she'll be clean in no time.
