This happen through first and second gear for the first twenty minutes of riding. I am not sure if it is fuel, or spark, because it runs fine after that...
Is it just a cold blood issue?

If it was a "cold blood " issue surely as soon as the bike got warmed up it would run well, twenty minutes is a long warm up.
Just a thought...maybe the battery is low? After it charges awhile the spark gets hotter? You don't mention your model or whether you're kicking it to get it started.

Sorry bout that... It is a 81.
The battery is charged to full, the spark is strong(new iridium plugs).
I was wondering if it was the carb not giving enough fuel until it warms...
Not sure either way...

I raised my needles about a 1/16th inch(made the notch myself) but still have chuggy in the beginning of the ride. It even lost all power and let out a great backfire this morning. Good dangerous times....Anyhow, I thought I had solved the problem and cannot seem to get it completely resolved...
I did find and a rubber gasket missing on one side of my air mix screw. Replaced it and lost the poppies....
I guess I need to be paitent and let it warm up for a good long while...
