I notice most all these bikes have filters on the end of the breather tubes, mine doesnt, just open tubes. Did they come with or without? Mine has never blowed any oil out at all. Are these for blowby? Motor has 7800 miles on it, no leaks and uses about a pint of oil after a couple of thousand miles. I assume they are breathing or i would have an oil leak. A buddy of mine says a slight amount of oil should come out of those tubes.

It basically works like a PCV system on a car. You should have some sort of filter on it. Mostly to catch any oil vapors that will escape. You should be able to use a universal plug in type. That's what I have on mine.

mine puffs a little oil so i ran the hoses back over the chain, have to clean the bike once in a while but i don't worry about a dry chain killing my sprockets

Ditched the safety relay on my D-model and stuck the solenoid under the seat, leaving room for a catch-can under the right sidecover. Installed a single-spigot breather, punched it out to Bertaut's specs, ventilated the top of an aerosol can on the drillpress, drilled a big hole in the middle for the breather line, covered the top of the can with filter foam cinched down with a pull tie, stuck the breather line through, and tucked it away. (I've started using Teflon dry wax lube on my chains and try to keep grease and oil off--they're grit magnets.)
