I have an 83 Heritage and when i put down the side kickstand with the bike in neutral the engine quits. Without involving lawyers, how can the switch be defeated? Or what should I look at to fix it? ...

Yes I checked the voltage at the battery when it was running and it was still 10.5.

i forgot to mention that the headlight was not on when I was running the engine.

While I am sure that there are bearings available, due to the limited amount of travel that the pivot encounters a bushing would be best suited here.

I had the same problem with my 83. It changed when i replaced the spark plug caps. Check the resistance. Ya might want to double check your carb clean up for blockage. Good luck.
