Hi all:
I checked my compression 150PSI in both cylinders. Very Happy
Yet My engine consumes about 8oz every 60 miles.
A friend I rode with told me when I hit the gas the bike smokes pretty good. Shocked
I read about XS John's baking soda trick which I'm willing to try Cool but; before I do I have a question.
Could cylinders be glazed even with good compression Question

I have also been looking into the valve on the breather does not seem like there is a lot of room to work.
does anyone have any tips that have done this mod.
BTW I'm running a 79 special.
TIA
Rick

Could be valve seals.... ? ......

Always good to leave pistons in the bore if compression is good........ doesn't sound reasonable for the cylinders to be glazed with 150 psi cranking compression......oil rings could be suspect but that is not a common problem......... RG's oil burning problem was pulling oil in from the tunnel...(headgasket)..... from the PO not torquing the head maybe.....but I wonder what his compression was ....

I had the same problem that RG had with his oil burning.
Oil was entering accross the head gasket at the cam chain tunnel.
Was very evident on dissassembly as the head gasket was very wet when the cylinder head was removed.
y compression was 140 plus in both cylinders.
y oil consumption was very little, but smoking out of LH cylinder on upshift and downshift.
