This may be a dumb question, and I hope I dont get flamed for asking. Has anyone ever done or heard fo anyone "decking" the head to bump the compression up a bit? Or will valve contact piston if that is done? Im getting ready for a full rebuild and wondering if it would work. thanks

it would work but will effect cam timing, easier to throw in hi-comp pistons
but then again you run into the fuel nowadays is not high compression friendly, if you want a faster bike for anything but vintage racing why bother, buy a ready made go-fast

Ok, i just figured i would ask. I just found out that I need to rebuild the motor so im just tossing ideas around. This is the first time im doing any internal ingine work on a bike. I know some about car engines but not much about bikes. Do you know who sells high comp pistons?

Just a comment about compression. xsjohn has LOWERED his compression by stacking two head gaskets I think and retarding the timing a bit, to make his bike more rideable he says. . Less vibration, heat, and it's a better ride he says. I'm not saying that is what you should do. Just some interesting info.

Much smoother with the lowered compression. I no longer grit my teeth when I ride, and with the 18/30 gears I no longer wish for an overdrive.

I used to hear Peggy Lees' "Is That All There Is?" in my head while riding. Now it's more like "The Long and Winding Road" and "Grandpa Got Run Over by a Reindeer".

Well im still a young buck at 24, so some vibrations dont bother me. But its something to consider for the future.
