I wasn't sure which section to put this in first off.
I have an 81 special, and I've been reading a lot and gathering parts for the permanent magnet alternator swap along with using the pamco ignition.
What I was wondering, is how should I set the timing with this setup? Since the rotor doesn't have timing markings that match up to the bikes (from what I found) how should I go about it? I have adjusted the timing on a car of mine by just moving the distributor until it ran better (I know not the best solution but it works), but I was seeing if there is a more accurate route to take.
Thanks.

You could find TDC using a dial indicater and with a degree wheel mark the rotor. thats how its usually done , I'm sure you will hear many more interesting ways though.

Could you transfer the timing marks to the inside lip of the left side cover? Then put them back to the banshee parts? Like this. From here : www.650rider.com/index...2935#42935
