Been having some questions about my speed readings so I had a work bud do a side ride along and give me different readings at different speeds. Seems I'm reading about 10 mph below actual speed, IF his readings are true.
So,
any '78 thru '83 accurate reading speedometers laying around out there looking for a new home?

Hmm. Could there be an issue with the register in the front tire?

What I did to verify my speedo was to got a ten dollar bicycle speedo from wally world. Getting the measurements to set the speedo was a bit of hassle, but it told me i was off by about 2 mph at 60 mph. Close enough for me.
As far as tires, a taller tire will read slower than a shorter tire. A 1/2 " difference makes a 1 mile difference in the speedo reading. so if your tire is with in an inch of the stock hieght it will read pretty close.

Some just replace the stock one with the bicycle one. They sell one with a light in it so you can see it in the dark.
