Does anyone know if the 850 kits are available anywhere? Or is 850 maybe a bit too much for the xs?

You'll have to source the parts yourself these days, I dont know of anyone in the UK at least who takes them on. . Ive owned & built a few over the years but usually bought the details such as off-set dowels , head gaskets etc from Tony Hall (Halco, address; heaven) ..
Easy enough to buy the SP370 pistons & machine the crankcases & modify the camchain tensioner yourself , plenty of companys out there who will supply the 85mm liners( for a price !)
I gave up on them because I couldnt buy the head gasket anymore, they seemed to blow every couple of years
they run hot too, not only because of the increased combustion but mainly due to the fact you lose the airflow between the cylinders as the oversize liners almost breach the camchain tunnel.
Better off with Mikes 750 kit these days.. Thats what Im saving for..
BTW, you'll need a 533 crank for the 840 conversion..

Everything you need to go to 840cc here, 533 or 447 motors. Purpose built pistons, not cut down from something else!
These are STILL on special, don't forget to convert from Aussie$ to your currency, the AU$ is quite low at the mo!:

For street use hoping them up really depends on how far you want to get down the road and how pleasantly you can get where you are going......after being trained at Yamaha and 40 years with Yamahas what could I possibly know ..................
First impulse is to hop them up or wack them up.....sometimes things can quickly get worse than before such hasty and often expensive decisions were made.........
Trying to make a Corvette out of a VW usually turns south..........only seems reasonable to me to buy a bigger bike for the speed....then there would be 2 bikes in the garage and maybe some money in the bank too.....

I agree. I spent thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours hot-rodding my '84, and it kept blowing up large. The front wheel would hop an inch off the ground at idle. Then I bought an '84 Interceptor 1000 for $2000.00, and learned what speed & smoothness were all about.
That said, I do love my current TX. It suits who I am now.

If I can't make a point on what seems reasonable then I guess I am waisting my time...........on this site if you pointed a finger up and said "that is up"....someone would come back and say "not in if you were in China".....
