Leon Russell, when he was a child, aspired to classical piano. By and by it became apparent that one of his hands wasn't perfect (birth or accident or something, I don't remember which), which meant he would never be a world-class concert pianist. So he started a career as a session musician, moved into rock 'n' roll, got rich and famous anyway but never achieved his dream. Do what you can the best you can do, you always make out in the end.
