i think I'd try a 20Amp if there is a short it will still blow, my 74 uses a 20A I think you're just light on the load carrying end

well something has changed so I'd try the 20 have you had any generater problem or replaced any lights lately? the connection to the wires may just be getting dirty and increasing resistance and of course you could hot wire it and see what smokes lol

There are 4 electrical loads on the bike. 3 of them can be measured at the fuse panel. Use you multi-meter, set to read amps, and insert the meter in series with the fuse holder to read each of the following: Ignition Fuse, Signals Fuse, and Headlight Fuse. Remove one fuse at a time and insert the meter leads and then start the engine and take the reading.
Ignition should be about 1.3 amps
Headlight should be about 4.3 amps (low beam)
Signal should be about 0.6 amps ( taillight only) ,signal should increase an extra 2.1 amps when flasher is on, should increase 1.7 amps when brake applied.
The # 4 load is the rotor current, but it can be measured by putting your voltmeter across the 2 brush terminals. Start the engine and allow a couple of minutes, then look for a voltage of 10 to 13 volts with engine at idle.
Readings that are greatly different from above may tell you where the extra current flow is going.
