Was wondering if any of you with chopped frames have used 2 shorter bolts, coming from the outsides of engines, instead of running that super long bolt that goes all the way across under there. I had to do some drilling as the mount holes on the frame didn't quite line up with the bores in the engine casting. All the other ones did line up.
But instead of this long one I was thinking of just using 2 shorter ones.

Hope someone even knows what the heck I'm talking about. Its the very bottom-most engine mount bolt. Real long.

thanks!

here's what I'm talking about. Sorry the pic is so small - for some reason photobucket won't upload my pics at regular size.

ok I think I figured out this is not a good idea. Because I think the purpose of that long bolt is not to attach the frame to the engine, but rather by running all the way across, to pull the frame rails tight to the engine.

So I gotta figure something out. The holes in my frame sit just a little bit (like about 3/32's) higher than the holes in the casting of the engine. Mainly just on one side.
Am kinda nervous to drill it wider all the way through.
oh well....

why would it hurt it if it didn't pull the frame tight together??

hey there, I learned the method to this....
its best to stick that long bolt in as the first engine to frame fastener. Reason is while the engine is just sitting on that one bolt, with no other mounts attached, it can rock back and forth a bit. Like its easy to pry it forward a tad or back, to get the next mounts attached.
Then, the very top mounts have some adjustabilty built in....
So anyway, I got them all on. Happy to have all stock mounting points on this chop.
I still think that long bolt set-up is weird, but now I think its pretty brilliant. Its not just a mount, but its a "system" in a way. An initial mounting point that allows the engine to rock forwards (pivot) or back to get the other mounts in position to line up and buttoned up.

I just went through the same thing I just dropped my engine back in and I had to look at it for a minute but once I took a breath and slowed down it dropped right in. Glad to hear you got it figured out.
