Interested in comments re whether these springs are any softer in initial movement. Is the ride softer when cruising???

mmmm, I don't know for sure, as I don't have them. But I'd imagine they'd be firmer than stock, especially 30 year old stock!
If you find what you've got is to firm. Drop the oil (measure what comes out). Probably put the stock amount & grade of oil back in there.
Most find that a bit soft though & either put more or heavier (or both) oil in
