I've been cutting various brackets off my frame in preparation for paint. The bike was already mostly taken apart when I got it, so I'm not sure what some of these are for. Anybody know?

- not all sure but
1. is in the same position as the rear mud guard lower mount - its not in the same plane as mine though
2. may be a battery box mount
3. can be used to fix the rear brake light switch cable

#2 and 3 I am sure are for grommet carriers for the lower right side cover.
Never heard of it ? no surprise, after having owned 2 XS'es and been on this site off and on in 2006 and then back again in august as well as the other 2 and on 650motorcycles and on many other sites, I found out last week that there is a third side cover. Smaller one under the right side big one.
Cool.
Srinath.

- not quite sure but i think those sidecovers youre referring to are only found on heritages-this is a special II
- if i see properly #3 is the wire loop that is found just above the brake light switch mount

- the brake light switch mounts into that bracket with the semicircle cutout that is welded to the rhs pillion footpeg bracket
