NP. I was pretty sure Id seen bigger tanks on the 850's but theyre such rare beasts over here I couldnt check one out..This tank had been hanging around for years in my shed but I hadnt taken much notice of it 'til I started reading the Caf racer/XS750 tank threads here.. Theres 3 tanks available in the UK/Europe - the 'standard' , the 'S' (slight custom . like an SE) & this big bugger as an option on the 850..
anyone want to buy it for £40 ?

The XS850 tank I have is identical to the XS750 tank I sold. That must be an option you guys got that we didn't.
Kinda reminds me of those huge BMW long range touring tanks. Might not be a bad idea for that kind of bike instead of a cafe'.

What is the shipping price to Germany? Could you find that out?

Sorry Beys, I only just turned the pc on again this morning.
! Royal Mail Parcels want £38 to send a 6KG parcel to Germany ! It would be cheaper for me to fly there ( £24 by Easyjet ) with the tank as 'hand luggage' !

I am at the point of starting to think about painting this cafe bike I am building. I have mounted an XS 750 tank to it. I am considering glueing on some knee pads that I will need to cut from some ribbed rubber matt I found recently. Has anyone done this before and what type of glue did you use? I know some manufacturers offer knee pads but haven't found any that really follow the contour of this tank and most have another manufacturers logo on them.

UK/European tanks are often larger than those found on US models. There could be a number of reasons for this, but based on my experience overseas I'd say their tanks are bigger because riders in those markets are, in general, more serious as motorcyclists than those of us in the States. I'm not going to explain or defend that other than to say "go see for yourself".

As I recall, Yamaha built touring variants of the xs1100 and xs850 for the US market, and they had bigger tanks. The 1100 touring tank was 6.3 gallons (US) I think, up from 5.3 on the standard model. I've seen a few of these, not many.
I don't recall seeing the touring xs850 tank, but I suspect it's the same as the several large tanks I saw in Germany and the UK. That's what xs1961 has pictured (above). It's what I'd most like to find for my xs650.

@xs1961
Holy sh*t I've been trying like mad to find that 24L tank!
I know it was a few months ago but any chance you still have it?
