Yes 55 is possible, I think xsjohns bike is so finely tuned now, that it in fact produces fuel as you ride it. He has to carry a jerry can to drain the tank every now & then.............Dont be downhearted though if your down in the 40's. A good running bike takes a bit of effort, the battle begins!

The highest octane you can find is a good choice. The few pennies per gallon difference isn't much compared to the better running. Often better milage.
Your milage can be very directly effected by your right wrist, the more it flexes the worse your milage.
