to try to sort the situation out, it looks like the one cylinder which was more carbon covered, which I am attributing to the leaking float, had been going on for some time.

Looks like the cam chain guide...I am going to replace mine along with the head gasket which was leaking. One of the last picts on this page may help you get an idea :

mmm a little revision / update...
I have managed to remove the cam by sliding it under the cam chain, not having to cut it, by removing the cam bearings (even just on one side)
which allowed enoug ... |

| thanks benztech, I've got to look into that stuff... I have scraped off much of the carbon with a metal pot scrubber mesh... and some bamboo chop sticks' back, flat end as well as ... brass and metal ... |
