Did you try pulling out the transistor and replacing it with the radio shack one yet? For a couple of bucks may be worth trying before you get to far into re-soldering things.

Took the rear wheel off again and the center part of the bearing does look squashed in. I'll bang this one out and then be more careful on installing the new one when it comes in.

I went to the discussion on Transistor Controlled Ignition and gave swapping out the transistor with a radio shack transistor and it worked fine. Nice bright spark on the plugs now.

I've got an electronic ignition system and I put some liquid gasket in between the carbs and the intake prior to mounting the carbs on. Running stock air boxes and filters.
