One screw holds it on. If you hear a click that should mean its working. Check to make sure you don't have power coming off the post to the starter before you replace it.

Use some sort of sealer on the base gasket. I followed everything and did everything right but still have some seepage on the base gasket, I wish I would have used something now.

poping on decel is air getting into the exhaust, pretty common on the mac 2/1 because the pipes just slide in the muffler. Some high temp sealer around the joints should help.

Also, if you have a quality impact wrench made with steel make sure you use something other than a steel faced hammer on it, like plastic, rubber or rawhide

replaced the starter gear today. Held the clutch by putting it in gear and putting on the brake. No need for a "clutch holding tool".
