My turn signals don't flash - lights turn on when switch is toggled but don't flash, then will turn off when button is pushed, so I know the circuits are good. I went to the auto parts store and got a 3-prong generic flasher ("thermal type") but it doesn't do anything - no lights at all. Do I need the actual Yamaha flasher relay?
Thanks

The three prong flasher is not compatible with the YAMAHA OEM flasher. The third prong does not serve the same purpose . The third prong on the YAMAHA flasher is for the self canceling feature and there is no equivalent in cars.

Go back to the Auto store and buy a dirt cheap #552 thermal flasher for about $3. Plug it into the brown and brown/white contacts.

If you don't mind losing your flash canceler you can buy one from custom dynamics for 15 bucks that will allow you to use smaller blinkers and led's to save power.
