Yesterday a Buddie came over on his "chopped XS", we were sitting and chatting doing the normal comparisons, and we bit noticed that My engine has a wee bit of a tilt to the front, My frame has a 4deg rake and NO extension ~,, its not much and barely noticeable but as we all now abt wet sump systems how detrimental is this going to be...I meen we are only talking very very minimal tilting here, and bring the engine back to flat would be an undertaking I dont think I can do... Longer forks would bring it back but I damn sure dont want that look......... Any imput please would be helpfull.
pic sitting on the ground:

Oooo you have a 900 eli. Nice. I had at one time 4 of em.
2 1000's and 1 900 and 1 900 with a concourse motor in it.
I sold all but 1 1000, which I probably will rebuild next year and ride and sell.
Anyway you should rake the thing more. Love your mods, just go all the way.
I dunno about the 4 degrees affecting oil pick up and cavitation. The bike can take a fair bit, especially cos with a 100 lb rider vs a 300 lb rider it can vary as much if not more.
Cool.
Srinath.

Well the general idea is that since the engine is tilting forward it wont get enough oil in the tranny area...... ~shrugs~ the tilt is so minimal it wasnt even noticed untill a wizeguy frame bike was sitting next to mine...
Yea I love my zl, its at .20 overbore and retains the stock pipes but is all dale walker stage 3 everyplace else... its a beast in the 1/4's broke tens many times with it with a street tire and my 235lbs on it.....

- bob trigg made an Ascot TT prototype in 77...several of the features were frame, isoclastic engine mounts and forward tilted motor...tony hall made some as a special run later on...

- if you were worried about oil you could deepen the sump
- apparently in these street-tracker style bikes the tilt was designed to shift the centre of gravity a little forward , improving the handling...there have been no reported oil problems
