Go into the Vault and look under "Alternative Alternators, Banshee" there are a couple of links, the one from the XS650 site of Australia has a good write up with pics and the one from 650 garage gives a good list of donor bikes for the Magneto.

If you want to go with a RD set up, the German adapter plate looks like the best way to go! Maybe despecial can help you out with contacting that guy?????????

- gday wally...ive been running one of these for some time now, in the beginning i ran a 4 Ah gel battery and kick start only, since then i removed the battery altogether and replaced it with a 25v 10000uF capacitor from a ktm...no problems, lotsa space, clean

When I get this Conversion done i want to expose some of the rotor turning so you can see it turning by cutting a hole, slot or quarter out of the generator cover.
Could also paint the rotor a colour or two.
Will the RZ set up be bothered by the weather I know with the brush set John leaves his open but is it also OK to do it with this set up.
Any Ideas Please

Wally, your going to need some timing marks on your new rotor.

Before you remove your old rotor etc, make sure you leave the motor on TDC. Still with the olsd rotor, learn to find TDC with a bit of dowell down the sparkplug hole. Once you happy you can find exact TDC again, then you can remove your old gear & fit the RZ stuff. Proper way would be to use a long dial gauge to get a precision moment of TDC.

Then when your done, make sure again & again it's on TDC & scribe a mark. Then print out this degree wheel (or any other)

www.google.com.au/imgr...CAsQ9QEwAA

Glue it to a bit of cardboard & bolt it to the crank. Then scribe your marks at 15 & 40 degrees before TDC. Well tht's the std marks anyway, you might want to scribe your marks a little retarded, like 13 & 38.

A few degrees can make a big difference, so make sure you get it right!

Hi All

I have come across two wiring diagrams for this conversion
Both show a fuse, i wonder what size that fuse should be?
Any Idea?

Conversion all done now
Only problem was when I set it at TDC & made new mark + new marks for timing & advance
When I started the bike the marks did not line up with the RZ marker as planned, the new timing marks on the rotor were at least 50 degrees forward of the RZ marker.
What’s up there?
Anyhow timing before set up was good, with timing light I just made a new mark on the stator plate that matched the mark on the rotor.
Bike back fires through the muffler on decal but it was doing that before.
Bikes seem to run better & harder maybe more spark?

I installed one this week on my 1977D. It is made by mrriggs on the XS650 Garage. It is a very nice piece that fits very well, and makes the permanent magnet alternator conversion much easier. I got my conversion up and running last night. I think you would be very pleased with it. Here's the thread on the XS650 Garage:

It seems the guys in the 'states haven't had much luck getting the adapter plates from Austrailia or Germany. I'm not sure why...

Plus, mrriggs' plate does away with the need for a Banshee stator mount. Just a little cleaner and simpler.

Be sure to tell us how your conversion turns out, Wally!

Probably have one at your local Yammy shop, I'll bet they fit a heap of models! Drop in there with your callipers & ask!

Here is the part # 9028005033

Cheers
